Pastor Alfred D. Brown Sr. is a native of Emporia, Virginia. He was educated in the Greensville County School System. After graduating high school, he attended Norfolk State University Norfolk, Va., where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management of Information Systems. Pastor Brown is also a graduate of Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology Richmond, Va., where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University.
Pastor Brown answered the call to ministry in 1996 and was licensed and ordained by his pastor the late Reverend Dr. Abraham I. Walton. Pastor Brown is the eighth pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Church (PGBC) located in Franklin, Va. where he has served since March 2004. His fourteen-year tenure earns him a historical place in history as the second longest tenured pastor of PGBC. Coupled with his historic accomplishments, Pastor Brown has been affectionately dubbed as “The Piney Grove Baptist Church Historic Pastor” by the PGBC Congregation. With respect, admiration, and love, Pastor Brown was honored with the distinction “Historic Pastor” because he has served longer than any pastor of PGBC since the iconic Pastor George Wiley Johnson, Jr.
Pastor Brown is known for preaching the gospel in a way that not only teaches and leads, but also challenges traditional thinking. His ministerial goals are to challenge the body of Christ to fulfill the command to Love, to dwell together in Unity and strive for Excellence in ministry.
Through his bold, principled leadership, PGBC has made great strides spiritually, administratively, technologically, and ministerially. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Brown led the church through a period of transition and transformation that elevated the church to the next level of success and achievement.
Pastor Brown is married to Lady Pamela Chapman Brown. They have two sons Alfred D. Brown, Jr. and Alex D. Brown.
